Admixing of masterbatch into polymer melt
A common way to incorporate additives into polymer melt is to use a masterbatch, since solid additives (e.g. Si02) can not be admixed in a melt stream directly. In such a case, the masterbatch must be fed via a small side extruder into the polymer main stream.

Customer advantages

The energy consumption is reduced very markedly by using a static mixer in the main stream instead of dynamic one. The reduced investment- and maintenance cost is an important factor for this solution. Further more, the shear rate with Sulzer mixers is much lower and is compensating for the normally slightly longer residence time compared to dynamic system, allowing to achieve high product quality at the outlet of the static mixer.
